HOUSTON — An investigation and a search for suspects are underway after police say a man was shot to death in the employee parking area of the Houston Farmers Market Thursday morning.
It happened around 4:15 a.m. The victim's family identified him as 36-year-old Damon Dwayne Price, a father of two.
A witness told Houston police the two suspects were seen on security cameras trying to steal a golf cart. That's when Price, an employee tasked with checking in trucks, tried to confront them. There was a brief fight before the two men shot him. He died at the scene.
HPD said the building was open early in the morning for deliveries.
A security guard at the market told police it all happened very quickly and she did not have time to pull her weapon out. HPD said at least four shell casings were found at the scene.
HPD said they have a security video that clearly shows the suspects. They said the two ran away south on Airline Drive. Police believe they couldn't have gotten far as one of them was wearing flip-flops.
"I think they are close by," said HPD homicide detective D. Crowder. "Somebody in this area definitely knows who they are. If they don't want to give their name, they don't have to. If anybody knows who they are, please contact us. This individual didn't deserve what happened to him. He was just doing his job."
