HOUSTON — Houston police say an officer was hurt when a robber ran over his leg in a getaway car in the Heights early Thursday morning.
The officer was responding to a robbery call at a CVS Pharmacy on TC Jester and Washington Avenue at around 3 a.m. when this happened.
HPD said two men wearing hoodies had gone into the store and held the clerks at gunpoint, demanding money. There was no money in the register's drawer and they couldn't get into the store's safe, so police said the suspects stole a clerk's debit card and took out a few hundred dollars.
The suspects also tried to take the clerk's phone to gain access to their bank accounts, according to HPD. That's when officers showed up.
The two reportedly took off but an officer managed to grab one of them as he was getting into the getaway car. That's when police said the suspect ran over the officer's leg. The officer was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.
The car used in the robbery was found crashed nearby and officers were working to track down the suspects.
This is a developing story that will be updated if/when more information becomes available.
