Police said the man has been taken into custody.

HOUSTON — A woman was critically hurt when a man shot her several times in a southwest Houston apartment Saturday morning, police say. The Houston Police Department said a 4-year-old girl was also grazed in the knee by shrapnel in the incident.

This happened at an apartment complex on Rampart Street near where the Westpark Tollway meets the Southwest Freeway.

Police said the man has been taken into custody. He's accused of shooting the woman in both legs, an arm and in her chest. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

We don't yet know what led up to the shooting, but people in the area told KHOU 11 they heard yelling before shots rang out.
