HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man accused of having a loaded gun in the Harris County Jail is being held without bond after a hearing on Monday.
Tyrone Kennedy, 53, was initially arrested Oct. 23 for a parole violation. After spending about a month in jail, according to his attorney, the violation had been resolved and Kennedy was awaiting release when the handgun was found. The attorney said the violation was an issue with an address change.
Authorities said the gun was hidden in his wheelchair seat cushion, which was sealed by a zipper. The weapon had six rounds in the magazine when it was found.
According to his attorney, Kennedy has a blood clot disorder and he can't always walk. The attorney said there's a lack of medical resources at the jail and the wheelchair likely was checked by other people before Kennedy got it in jail.
Kennedy is now facing two new felony charges -- possession of a deadly weapon in a penal institution and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. A judge ordered him to be held without bond.
