Jonatan Figueroa is still on the run and police believe he may have fled to Mexico.
Jonathan Figueroa is wanted for questioning in the murders of Veronica Marcado and her toddlers.

HOUSTON – An ex-boyfriend has been charged with capital murder for the shooting deaths of a young mother and toddler in southeast Houston Friday.

Jonathan Figueroa is still on the run and police believe he may have fled to Mexico.

The bodies of Veronica Mercado and her daughter were found in their home in the 7800 block of Elvera. Mercado will still holding her little girl, Linette Cano, when they were found. Both had been shot several times.

Mercado was in her 20s. Linette would have turned 2 this month.

Mercado's two older children were at school at the time of the shootings.

Homicide detectives said Figueroa made statements to a friend that caused the friend to be concerned about the welfare of Mercado. When police went to her home to check on her, they found the front door forced open.

A co-worker said Mercado was having problems with Figueroa and was afraid of him.

"There is a history of family violence going on here," said HPD Sgt. Mark Holbrook.

If you know where Figueroa is, please call the police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
