'Justice for Lucky' | Dog dies after being burned and beaten near Fifth Ward

A forensic veterinarian said Lucky had severe bruising as well as clues indicating the dog was trying to get away.

HOUSTON — Officials are asking for help to find the person responsible for burning and beating someone's pet.

Warning: Some readers may find the following details disturbing.

The dog, named Lucky, was found outside of a home in the Kashmere Gardens area severely beaten and on fire Friday morning. Lucky's owners made the shocking discovery and called Houston police.

"He was in critical condition when he arrived," Angelina Saucedo with the Houston Humane Society told KHOU 11.

Lucky was treated with IVs and ointments to treat his burns. Sadly, a day after Lucky arrived at the Humane Society, he died.

"Lucky did pass on Saturday," Saucedo said. "He suffered from severe burn shock and organ failure. Due to the severity of the burns that he did arrive with, it's very sad. But again, it motivates us even more to find out who did this to Lucky."

A forensic veterinarian with the Humane Society said Lucky had severe bruising consistent with intentional blunt force trauma as well as clues indicating the dog was trying to get away. They also said an accelerant of some kind was used to burn the dog.

The Humane Society said it's important to find whoever committed the gruesome act because of the potential that they could do something similar again to another animal or a human being.

"We all just want justice for our Lucky boy," Saucedo said.

Houston police said what happened to Lucky is part of an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact them immediately.
