Family wants justice after 29-year-old father of four killed in north Houston shooting

Loved ones of Felipe Guerrero said he was dropping off his son at his mother’s house when he got into an altercation with another driver.

HOUSTON — A family is mourning the loss of a north Houston man who was shot and killed along Aldine Mail Route near the Eastex Freeway last weekend.

KHOU 11 spoke with the family of Felipe Guerrero Carmona, a 29-year-old father who had just left his house with his son.

“I feel like it’s not real. He was just going to drop off his son and come back and he didn’t,” Angela Estrada said.

Estrada is Felipe’s wife and said he was a forklift driver who had four kids, one 6-year-old, a 4-year-old, a 1-year-old and a 4-month-old.

“He was a forklift operator, and I’ll tell you this: the last dollar in his pocket went to his kids,” Estrada said.

Family members said Felipe left their home to drop off his son at his mother’s house on Saturday around 6 p.m. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened in a U-turn lane near the intersection of Aldine Mail Route and the Eastex Freeway. Officials said Felipe got into an argument with the driver of another vehicle in the U-turn lane and got out of his vehicle. What happened before both vehicles stopped is still under investigation.

“We haven’t determined that other than the driver, it appears the initial male that ended up getting shot may have been striking that person in that second vehicle,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Saturday.

Felipe’s son was in the back seat and wasn’t hurt. Estrada said she received a call to come to the scene to get him and she went to the hospital.

Surveillance video showed the suspect leaving the scene in what was described as a light-colored sedan. The camera captures the suspect’s car possibly hitting another vehicle on the way out.

Gonzalez said they would like to speak with the driver of the other vehicle. The family is hoping someone has information on the suspect.

“He left a family, nothing can bring him back to life but we can at least get justice,” Estrada said.

Felipe’s family is left to mourn. The family has started a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses.

“I just want to remember him like he was, just a happy person,” Estrada said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call either Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.
