Houston police released these photos of a person of interest in a double homicide that happened in downtown Houston on June 2, 2024.

HOUSTON — A man and a woman were shot and killed on a downtown Houston bayou trail earlier this month, and now, police want to bring in a man for questioning in connection with the case.

Richard Nugent, 38, and RJ Lewis, 66, were found shot to death along the Buffalo Bayou Trail on June 2.

Authorities said they responded to the trail after receiving reports of a body around 6:35 p.m. When they got there, they found Nugent, who had been shot to death, on the sidewalk.

As officers were working the scene looking for witnesses, they found Lewis' body on a stairwell leading from the trail to the intersection of Congress and Smith streets. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said they haven't figured out a motive for the shooting.

The person of interest was described by police as a man with a goatee and possibly a beard who was carrying a small dark bag or fanny pack. They said he was wanted for questioning and released three photos of him. They said they thought the man might have information about the deadly shootings.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Houston Police Department Homicide Department at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
