5 stabbed at apartment complex in North Austin

The stabbing occurred at The Ivy Apartments on North Lamar Boulevard near Rundberg Lane. KVUE spoke with a man who said two of his family members were injured.

AUSTIN, Texas — One person was arrested after five people were stabbed at an apartment complex in North Austin on Sunday night.

Officials with the Austin Police Department (APD) and Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) said officers and medics responded to reports of a stabbing at The Ivy Apartments on North Lamar Boulevard, near Rundberg Lane, at around 8:45 p.m.

Each of the people involved was taken to a hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, according to ATCEMS. APD Watch Command confirmed to KVUE that everyone involved in the incident knew one another.

Junior Garcia Hernandez said his father and brother were hurt in the stabbing. He said a cookout was taking place on Sunday night, but when he went to the store, he saw the heavy police presence.

"I don't know why they were fighting," Hernandez said. "I feel bad because they shouldn't have weapons here in this area because I have my wife and my two children."

Garcia Hernandez said he's still trying to get more information on what happened, but he fears for everyone's safety.

"I spoke with the wife of my brother in Mexico. She was very worried and crying for him, and my mom and other brothers are also very worried," Hernandez said. "I don't know what's going to happen."

APD said a suspect was arrested as of early Monday morning, and there is no threat to the public. As of Monday evening, APD has still not shared the name of the suspect.

No additional information is available at this time.
