Argument leads to fatal shooting near 610 South Loop

Houston police say a 25-year-old man standing next to a motorcycle got into an argument with another man.

HOUSTON — Police are still looking for a shooter on the south side who shot and killed a man in the middle of the street Sunday morning.

It happened around 9 a.m. in the 3800 block of Lydia Street where neighbors say the area has become increasingly deadly just north of the 610 South Loop.

Neighbors say they heard two men arguing in the street a little ways down the block. Soon after that they heard gunfire.

Houston police say the victim, who is approximately 25-years-old, was standing alongside his motorbike during the argument.

They aren’t sure what the men were fighting about. Then they say the shooter began to fire, killing the man, and then took off on foot.

He still hasn’t been caught.

Police say they believe he was wearing a white shirt and jean shorts.

KHOU 11 News spoke with neighbors who say this area has become increasingly dangerous. They said they were too frightened to go on camera.

One woman says a man was shot one street over on Saturday.

“We do know that the person walked up to them and shot them, the female took off running and he chased after her — we do know it was a male but we don’t know the age, race, identity or anything like that,” Det. Michael Arrington, with HPD, said.

On Friday, a few blocks to the north on Idaho Street, police say a 37-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were chased and gunned down by a shooter on foot.

Police say he took off on foot, too. He still hasn’t been caught.

Neighbors fear this latest shooting could insight retaliation in the neighborhood in the form of more violence.
