THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Wild hogs causing damage to yards in Montgomery County is nothing new, but this year, residents said the damage is causing them major headaches.
Randall Bergeron has lived in the Grogan's Point neighborhood in The Woodlands for 15 years.
"This latest invasion has been the worst," he said. "They have been here the past Saturday, Sunday, Monday -- three days in a row."
He said he recently woke up to find his lawn, flowerbeds and wiring all uprooted.
"Hogs root -- they come to your property to dig up the garden looking for worms -- things of that nature," he said.
Residents have given up trying to make repairs since the hogs show up so frequently.
Bergeron said the latest trampling left him with thousands of dollars in damages.
He's not alone. Several of his neighbors are also facing the same issues. The neighborhood shares a border with the Montgomery County Preserve, which is a haven for wildlife.
"Without the help of The Woodlands, we can't mitigate this problem without having to spend a ton of money, Bergeron said.
Bergeron has been able to trap some of the animals on his property, but he's concerned the numbers are growing along with the dangers -- not only for himself but for those he loves most.
"The hog is very unpredictable. I have grandkids and I am worried my kids will be playing and will be attacked by these animals," he said.
Some residents have paid to have professional trappers come out, but that can be expensive. They're hoping Montgomery County leaders can step in to help them get the problem under control.
About four years ago, the county provided some mitigation efforts but it's unclear if they'll do it again this time around.
