Millie the pig rescued from floodwaters brought by Hurricane Milton

LITHIA, Fla. — After Hurricane Milton brought major flooding to the area, some people in Lithia spotted a pig in the floodwaters that needed some help.

A group of people jumped into action, roping up the pig, named Millie, pulling, tugging and guiding her out of high waters and onto dry land. Despite her rescuers' best intentions, Millie seemed reluctant to get out of the waters, squealing and tugging against them.

10 Tampa Bay shared video of the rescue on Facebook and some commenters brought the jokes.

"Thank you for rescuing my ex," one commenter wrote.

"Shake a feed can & she'd come running!" another said.

Others were thankful for Millie's rescue.

"Sad poor millie she must have been so scared bless," one comment said. "Glad she's safe."

"Sorry Millie, after all the destruction Milton left you put a smile on my face," one person wrote. "Thank you Millie."

After Hurricane Milton dumped more than a foot of rain on parts of the Tampa Bay area, local rivers are seeing historic levels of flooding.

The Alafia River, which caused flooding in the Lithia area, at Lithia Pinecrest Road crested at 24.34 feet around 9:15 a.m. Friday, according to the National Water Prediction Service.

"Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads," the National Weather Service wrote. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles."
