What's causing dead ducks to show up along southeast Houston bayou?

Nearly a dozen dead ducks were found along Sims Bayou in southeast Houston. Those who found them believe they were mutilated.

HOUSTON — Nearly a dozen dead ducks were found along a southeast Houston bayou.

The gruesome discovery was made next to the Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care facility.

The people who found them believe the ducks were mutilated.

A KHOU 11 crew saw the ducks Wednesday afternoon and it was clear they did not die from natural causes.

Images of carcasses up close have been blurred because they are too graphic.

Not far away, in the bayou water, ducks that were still alive were swimming.

Houston police said they passed along the information to the department’s animal cruelty division but they said the person who found the ducks will need to file a report online for them to launch an investigation.

KHOU 11 first heard about the story from a post on Next Door.

Here are some of the many comments it’s gotten:

"This is psychopathic behavior and should be taken very seriously," one person posted.

"You only kill an animal for a very good reason such as food. This is disgusting," another said.

Another person suggested the ducks were hunted and cleaned for food.

Another person agreed and suspected the ducks were cleaned somewhere else and dumped along the bayou.

Whatever the explanation, people on the jogging path Wednesday night said it isn’t something they want to see again.
