'Mattress Mack' takes part in IHOP's 'Flip It Forward' benefit to help sick kids

The "Flip It Forward" campaign raises money for Shriners Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

HOUSTON — It’s National Pancake Day and IHOP restaurants are giving away a free short stack all day long.

At some Houston locations you can turn those free pancakes into a good deed.

At the IHOP off of the Southwest Freeway and Kirby people are invited to flip it forward for kids.

Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture, got in on the fun Tuesday flipping pancakes and supporting the annual campaign that helps kids overcome illnesses.

The proceeds at this location benefit Shriners Hospital.

“I’ve done this about five years now and Shriners Hospital does a tremendous job helping children down in Galveston. Children from all over the world.” said Mattress Mack.

In addition, kids who benefit from donations like 17-year-old Zach Johnson said there’s no easier way to give back.

“It helps us a lot,” Johnson said. "It really does. We couldn’t do what we do without the support and the donations that we get.”

For a $5 donation you’ll get a wall icon.

The Flip it Forward for Kids event goes on until 7 p.m.
