HOUSTON — Senior Rides and More is a faith-based nonprofit organization that was founded in 1994 by two women—a registered nurse and a Dominican Sister—who recognized that the elderly were missing crucial medical appointments, suffering from malnutrition, and experiencing extreme loneliness because they had aged out of driving and were dependent on others for rides to doctors and grocery stores. Without reliable transportation, many elderly individuals struggle to live independently in their own homes, where they wish to remain. Senior Rides was established to provide homebound seniors with the transportation they need to stay healthy and independent, and this service is always free for those who qualify. However, to receive service, individuals must be 65 years of age or older, enrolled in the program, ambulatory (able to walk), and live within the designated service area. Those interested in the program should contact the office to confirm their eligibility.
The organization is funded through private foundation grants, contributions from faith congregations in the Houston area, and community donations. However, the costs of operating the program continue to rise each year. Anyone can visit the organization's website to make a donation via PayPal, and a PayPal account is not required to contribute to Senior Rides and More—it's a very easy process.
