Olympian Cullen Jones shares an important message on keeping your kids safe this swim season

Cullen almost drowned as a child. Instead of staying away from water, he jumped in feet first and went on to break swimming records.

With so many people without power and air conditioning, the beach, lake, and swimming pools are popular places to be. It's a great way to cool off, but Olympian Cullen Jones has some other ideas.

Jones almost drowned as a child. Instead of staying away from water, he jumped in feet first, went on to break swimming records, and won four Olympic medals.

Cullen Jones shares an important message on keeping your kids safe this swim season.

Three principles of water safety for parents and pool owners:

1. Learn to swim: I believe swimming is not just a sport, it's an important life skill.

2. Secure the pool area: Install pool fences, locking gates, safety covers, and pool safety alarms to prevent accidents.

3. Maintain healthy and safe pool water: Regularly test and balance your pool water to keep it clean, clear, and safe.
