HOUSTON — Lunar New Year is the Asian spring festival that kicks off a new year, this year being the Year of the Pig.
Dr. Allen Lee, the leader of Lee’s Golden Dragon, talked with Deborah Duncan about the Lunar New Year and the meaning behind some of the traditions. Throughout history, the traditional lion dance was performed to ward off evil spirits. Today, the lion dance is to bring good luck.
Lee’s Golden Dragon dancers perform at a variety of events around Houston and perform both southern and northern lion dances, dragon dances, ball walking and acrobatics. They also specialize in drum exhibitions.
Lee’s Golden Dragon has several performances Saturday, February 9, 2019: You can see them at Katy Asian Town at 1:30pm, the pre-game show of the Houston Rockets, and 2 shows at Vietopia Restaurant that evening.
