KHOU 11, their families and volunteers helped pack food for kids in Backpack Buddy program

KHOU 11 is working with the Houston Food Bank to help out our local children.

HOUSTON — On Saturday morning, our KHOU 11 team, their families and other volunteers were at the Houston Food Bank helping pack dozens of bags of food for kids.

It's part of our partnership with the Backpack Buddy program. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to provide weekend meals for over 15,000 local students.

Last year, we raised more than $40,000 and are hoping to keep the momentum going as kids go back to school.

"There's such a call to action and a need in our community," said KHOU 11 Meteorologist Chita Craft, who was volunteering Saturday. "It's important that we come and this is such a great event that we bring our families to so they are exposed to it, as well. And then, you know, we all just work together and come together. It's a really good feeling.

You still have time to help a child in need. Here's a link to donate. The campaign runs until August 30.

Thank you for helping us stand for Houston.
