HOUSTON — Thanks to your generosity, Houston-area students will have more than 200,000 meals provided to them through the Houston Food Bank Backpack Buddy program.
From the beginning of our drive through the telethon last week and after, your donations totaled an incredible $67,000. That equals 201,000 meals provided to Houston-area students on weekends this school year.
One in five children in Southeast Texas is considered food insecure, meaning they don’t have consistent access to nutritious food. Many are reliant on free or reduced-price school meals for breakfast and lunch during the school year, but during the breaks and weekends, they go home to little or no meals.
Your generosity is helping to close the gap and feed these Houston-area students.
