Hourslong standoff in Sugar Land ends with 2 people in custody, police say

According to police, a standoff after a shooting outside of MOD Pizza in Sugar Land is over after several hours.

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Two people are in custody after a shooting outside of a MOD Pizza evolved into an hourslong standoff, according to Sugar Land police.

Police said it started shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday when two men were seen arguing in the parking lot of the popular pizza restaurant along the Southwest Freeway near the Grand Parkway.

During the argument, one man shot the other in the leg. The shooter then got into a vehicle and left the area. About an hour later, police began investigating a home on Canyon Crest near the Grand Parkway when they found a vehicle connected to the shooting.

Police said a child and the child's grandmother were seen leaving the home during the standoff. Just before 7 a.m., two people were arrested including the suspected shooter and the driver of the vehicle that left the restaurant, according to police.

Meanwhile, the man who was shot during the argument is expected to survive.
