Houston Forecast: Pleasant weekend weather, stronger cold front arrives Monday evening

Expect showers and storms Sunday and Monday

HOUSTON — We are going to stay nice for Saturday with slightly higher humidity and temperatures not as chilly. We're still seeing a nice temperature drop, but above average, so we should be around 73 to 74 degrees for this time of year.

If you're looking for a real cool-down look forward to next week as a much more pronounced dip in the jet stream ushers in some continental air that muscles all the way down to Southeast Texas.

Next week's cold front will arrive on Monday afternoon, and it will bring some of the coolest temperatures we've seen this season. We're talking about maybe 20 degrees below its average for this time of year.

Also, we can expect to see showers and storms as the cold front sweeps through Southeast Texas.

The surge of cooler air will arrive Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Morning temperatures will be in the 50s and 40s while afternoon temperatures will only reach the 60s. Make sure to have your jackets handy for the middle of next week.

Drought report

The wet pattern we've had has done wonders for our drought monitor. This week Southeast Texas has come down from a severe drought to a moderate drought. The rain this weekend will continue to help offset the 35 dry days we had at the end of September into all of October. Reports are issued weekly, and the next update will be released Thursday.

Monday evening's cold front will be stronger bringing passing showers and even colder temperatures for the middle of next week. Fall-like weather will remain in the picture at least through Thursday.
