HOUSTON — The busiest travel period of the year has arrived and all eyes are on the forecast.
Here in Houston, weather looks good over the next few days. Clouds and a shower or two are possible for Thanksgiving Day, but nothing that should cause any issues.
If you are heading out across Texas on Wednesday, the biggest travel day, showers are moving into deep south Texas. You are likely to run into wet roadways on I-69 south of Kingsville to Harlingen and Brownsville.
While the rest of Texas looks clear and sunny Wednesday, a low-pressure system will move over the Gulf of Mexico and will send clouds and showers along the Texas coast for Thanksgiving Day.
Across the rest of the United States, delays are possible across the East Coast as the powerful cold front that went through Monday night pushes east. Heavy rain, storms, and even some snow are possible from New England into the Southeast. The worst of these impacts will likely be felt Tuesday evening, but some delays could linger into Wednesday morning.
The hardest hit areas are expected to be New York City/Newark, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Boston. On the roads, travel will be slow for the I-95 corridor through Wednesday morning as well.
The rest of Wednesday looks good once that storm departs off the East Coast. Nearly every spot in the nation will see quiet weather, which will allow airlines to recover from any delays Tuesday evening.
Across Texas, conditions could not be better for Wednesday. Dry and mild conditions will prevail with temperatures ranging from the 40s in the panhandle to low 70s across South Texas. A mix of sun and clouds is expected state-wide with dry roads.
The next travel issue will arrive over the weekend, as a developing storm moves off the Rockies, toward the Midwest. Rain and snow are possible Saturday into Sunday from Denver to Minneapolis and Chicago. For Houston, a few showers are possible, but conditions should remain manageable.
