HOUSTON — A cold front is expected to arrive this afternoon. Ahead of it we could see areawide showers with a few storms but the best chance for severe weather will be later this afternoon.
Here in the Houston area, we have the possibility of severe storms that could produce an isolated tornado and wind damage this afternoon. You can see the latest timing of the storm here.

In other parts of the state, there are other threats, including snow and freezing temperatures in the Texas Panhandle and fire weather in other areas.
As part of the state’s preparations, the following agencies are being put on standby.
- Texas Department of Transportation for road conditions
- Texas A&M Task Force 1 for urban search and rescue and boat squads
- Texas A&M Forest Service for firefighting, heavy equipment, saw crews and incident management teams
- Texas Department of State Health Services for winter and severe weather packages
- Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for air, water and wastewater management
- Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services for disaster assessment and recovery
- Texas Animal Health Commission for animal and agriculture needs
- Public Utility Commission for power outages and utility
- Railroad Commission for monitoring state’s natural gas supply and coordination with oil and gas companies
- Texas Department of Public Safety for troopers and marine units
- Texas Parks and Wildlife for game wardens and boat squads
- Texas National Guard to support response needs
- Texas Department of Information Resources for infrastructure monitoring
- Texas Education Agency for the needs of school districts across Texas
- Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster for coordination of volunteer organizations
