How to get help if you become a flood victim in Texas

Heavy rain caused widespread flooding in Southeast Texas this week. Here's how you can get help if it happened to you.

HOUSTON — Chances are that if your home floods, you're going to be worried about a lot all at once.

That's why there are resources available to help you navigate the tough times.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management assists victims by providing a path to several resources. Click here for more information. Depending on how destructive the disaster is, TDEM said it could also provide additional assistance from the government, nonprofit organizations, volunteer and faith-based groups.

The American Red Cross opens shelters across the Houston area. Anyone in need of help should call 1-866-526-8300.

The Greater Houston Disaster Alliance and the United Way also provide resources to victims. All you have to do is call 211. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more information, click here.
