Rising San Jacinto River worrying residents

Many residents are making plans to leave to avoid being cut off by the rising river.
Many residents along the San Jacinto River, including 93-year-old John Ezell, are making plans to leave the area to avoid being cut off by the rising river.

The Harris County Flood Control District is urging those along the San Jacinto River should take action to prepare for rising waters.

The district says rainfall from early morning storms dropped 2-4 inches on the already high river.

"I'm nervous," said neighbor Denise Flores, who lives near the San Jacinto. "I hear it's going to be raining all week and water is coming from the dams upstream."

Many residents live in homes that are elevated. But they, too, spent Wednesday moving items upstairs in the event of flooding.

Many people are making plans to leave to avoid being cut off by the rising river.

John Ezell, 93, had to be evacuated from his home by boat. A neighbor helped his son bring the longtime resident to safety.

"Pop doesn't want to move, so we kind of cooperate with him the best we can," said Ezell's son Jack. "Just didn't know what they would do with the dam so it was easier for him to come home with me."
