HOUSTON — Like many neighborhoods across the Houston area, Oak Forest is a mess after Hurricane Beryl blew through Monday. Trees are down, debris is all over the place and power is out.
"We got the tornado warning at about five something this morning and heard the wind. Heard the rain. Everything was fine for a while," Sharon Fuller said.
But it didn't stay fine for long.
"We heard a loud crack and the neighbor's tree from the front yard way on the other side of their yard, fell across our yard and hit our front stoop, porch, roof," Fuller told KHOU 11 News. "And then, I was looking out the window and watched the tree across the street come down."
Her neighbors also have damage from Beryl's strong winds. Their whole carport collapsed under the weight of a large tree.
Sharon said when the derecho hit in May, she and her neighbors avoided damage. They were not so lucky this time around.
"We're one of the only houses that never got touched and this time it's only us on the street," Fuller said.
Still, they're glad that everyone is OK.
"We've already filed an insurance claim and heard back, so I think we're good," Fuller said.
Neighbors also offered to help clear the debris.
