Residents at Missouri City senior living apartment complex still dealing with Hurricane Beryl damage

Sheetrock inside the hallways at Jubilee Senior Living was taken down for repairs. Weeks later, residents say no work has been completed.

MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Residents at a senior living complex in Missouri City are frustrated and saying they’ve waited too long for repairs from Hurricane Beryl damage.

Residents at Jubilee Senior Living went seven days without power after Hurricane Beryl hit the Houston area. Now eight weeks after the storm hit, they are still struggling.

Outside of Frankie McCoy’s unit, and several others in the complex, she sees pink insulation.

“All the insulation has fallen down some guys came in and tore it all up, next thing you know, no one came around no more,” McCoy said.

The sheetrock in the hallways had what appeared to be moisture immediately following Hurricane Beryl. McCoy and other residents previously told us water leaked into their apartment units.

Now, the insulation and the walls behind it are exposed to residents.

Mccoy filed a complaint with the city’s health department.

“I’m worried about the other peoples, especially the ones that sick up in here that can’t do nothing for themselves and don’t have families,” McCoy said.

One person said that sheetrock workers were coming this week, so, KHOU 11 News went to the management office to ask.

Their employee wouldn’t respond to repeated questions and instead asked KHOU 11 News to contact their legal team.

“We have both properties they are working on,” the manager said, referring to the Gala Senior Living complex, which is right next door to Jubilee.

“How long is it going to take?” KHOU 11 News asked. “Again, that person will give you the information you need,” the manager said.

After repeated calls and emails to management, we’ve yet to receive a response at our deadline.

Mccoy believes the status of repairs should’ve been communicated better.

“I get frustrated because I’m not on housing, I’m fully paying rent because I work, but this is for senior people. This how y’all want your senior people to live in Missouri City?” McCoy asked.
