HOUSTON, Texas — An unexpected outage surprised people at the Veterans Memorial DPS Driver's License Mega Center Wednesday just as CenterPoint reported nearly all customers were back on track 10 days after Beryl.
"I just want to renew my license,” said Sandra Bolden.
"It’s just one thing after another,” said Nadine Laura Smith.
Smith said she drove from Tomball to the Veterans Memorial location days after dealing with outage issues at home.
"We were disappointed to find out we don’t have good coverage with insurance, FEMA denied us because we have insurance," said Smith. "So, we’re just in a situation, one thing at a time."
Most told us that some sort of warning would have saved them valuable time, especially those still recovering from the storm.
“I wanted to go to the closer DPS, but this one had an appointment sooner," said Bon Crowder of Spring Branch. "And so I’m like “okay, I will drive far, far away to get to it.” "Yeah.”
Other lingering issues include traffic signals that remain partially or inoperable.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army and others continue to provide meals to those in need. After all, so many people ended up having to trash refrigerators and freezers full of food.
"So, it’s an ongoing saga," said Bolden.
The kind of saga many believe we should be accustomed to effectively handling by now.
KHOU 11 News requested a response from DPS regarding the power outage and resulting inconvenience, but we didn't hear back.
CenterPoint did say it was aware of the issue and was working on it.
