LIST: Distribution sites for food, water, ice or supplies in Houston area

The city of Houston is giving out free water and ice on Tuesday, July 16, at five locations.

HOUSTON — As Hurricane Beryl recovery continues throughout the Houston area, a lot of people are still struggling after massive power outages shut down businesses and left many people with unexpected expenses and no food for their families. 

Distribution drives by the city of Houston, the Houston Food Bank and other organizations are taking place to help fill the need.

Houston Food Bank in Rosenberg

The Houston Food Bank, Office of Emergency Management and Fort Bend County Judge KP George will host a food and water distribution event on Wednesday, July 17, at 4 p.m., at the Epicenter in Rosenberg. It's located at 28505 Southwest Freeway.

"During times of need, the residents of Fort Bend County can count on us for unwavering support and compassion. Together, we can make a difference. I invite anyone who wants to lend a helping hand, to join our volunteer team and help our community," George said.

Families with SNAP benefits can get help directly from the Houston Food Bank.

They also need donations and volunteers to help pack 10,000 disaster boxes per day for Beryl victims and others facing hardship. 

Individuals – including kids – as well as groups are welcome to volunteer, and registration can be done online for a shift(s): 8 a.m. - noon; noon - 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Saturday; also 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Friday; and 9 a.m. to noon on Sundays.

IDEA Public Schools serving free meals to children

Starting on Wednesday, July 17, three more IDEA schools will be serving free meals to all children impacted by Hurricane Beryl. 

Meals will be served at all three campuses, including IDEA Hardy, IDEA Spears, and IDEA Lake Houston, through Friday, July 26. Breakfast will be provided on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch will be provided on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

IDEA Spears and IDEA Hardy started the fee meal distribution on Monday and will also continue through July 26. 

All children in the community 18 years or younger qualify for the nutritious meals. The child does not have to be an IDEA student.

Distribution drive on Saturday, July 20

Bread of Life

Bread of Life in downtown Houston will hold another drive-thru distribution event on Saturday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to noon in coordination with its third annual All-In Back-to-School Event at St. John’s United Methodist Church at 2019 Crawford St. 

Items are provided on a first-come basis. 

Donations needed:

  • Non-perishable food items like canned, boxed and bagged goods
  • Water 
  • Hygiene items like toothbrushes, soap, wipes, sanitizer,
  • Disaster relief items like flashlights, first aid kits
  • School supplies like notebooks, paper, pencils, crayons, glue and backpacks.
