HOUSTON — CenterPoint on Tuesday night released an update on power restoration progress in the Houston area in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.
They said more than one-third of customers had their power restored within the first 30 hours since Beryl moved through Southeast Texas.
They also said they are confident they'll be able to hit their estimate of restoring 1 million customers within 48 hours of the storm's exit from the area.
"We have made solid progress and exceeded the number of customer restorations following Hurricane Ike, but we have a lot of important work ahead, especially in the hardest-hit areas where the work will be more complex and time-consuming," Lynnae Wilson, Senior Vice President, Electric Business, said. "We know we have a lot of customers counting on us to do our jobs as safely and quickly as possible, and that will continue to be our highest priority."
CenterPoint said that 2.26 million customers were impacted by Beryl and as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, they had restored power to more than 850,000 of them.
The power company also announced they released a new map meant to show the progress in the restoration effort.
The color-coded restoration tracker, according to CenterPoint, explains their process for restoring power.
- Orange areas indicate where CenterPoint is still assessing damage
- Blue areas show where crews have been assigned to restore power
- Green zones are where CenterPoint says fuse-level repairs are complete, but isolated outages to individual homes might still remain
Wednesday morning update: Since we posted a link to the map on Tuesday night, we've heard from many of you, through email and on social media, saying the map is inaccurate.

CenterPoint's other outage tracker map has been down since the May derecho. When KHOU 11 News asked how soon that outage map would be fixed, CenterPoint said it would be repaired by the end of July along with a redesign.
