Beryl school closures on Friday: Some Houston-area districts, colleges will be closed again

As massive power outages continue, some Houston-area school districts have canceled classes and activities on Friday, July 12.

HOUSTON — As the Houston area continues a slow recovery from Hurricane Beryl, some school districts and colleges will be closed again on Friday. 

The more than a million CenterPoint customers without power include many area schools.  

Cy-Fair ISD closed

CFISD will be closed on Friday, July 12, according to the regular summer calendar.

Galena Park ISD closed through next week

Due to the number of homes and district facilities without power, Galena Park ISD campuses and district offices will remain closed Friday, July 12.

Houston ISD closed 

Due to the effects of Hurricane Beryl, all summer school classes and activities are canceled on Friday, July 12. Summer school students will not make up the days missed due to the storm. Summer school will end on July 19, as planned.

Houston Christian University closed

Due to the continuing power outage, campus activities are canceled for Friday, July 12.

Humble ISD closed

Humble ISD is closed on Friday, July 12, due to power outages and storm clean-up. 

Lone Star College closed through next week

Lone Star College will remain closed through Sunday, July 14. Visit www.lonestar.edu for more information including Summer Class schedule updates.

Magnolia ISD

Magnolia ISD offices, campuses, and Summer Adventures Camp will be closed on Friday, July 12. We will post an update over the weekend regarding summer programs and camps opening on Monday.

Pasadena ISD closed

Due to continual power outages and sustained damages across the district, Pasadena ISD will be closed on Friday, July 12.

San Jacinto College closed

San Jacinto College will remain closed on Friday, July 12, 2024, for all classes (on-campus and online), operations, and activities, including summer camps. The San Jacinto College North Campus and a few additional College facilities remain without power. Facilities services personnel and ITS staff continue to assess the buildings to ensure they are safe and ready for students and employees to return on Monday, and the College is in contact with CenterPoint regarding power restoration.

All San Jacinto College classes (on-campus and online), operations, activities and summer camps will resume as scheduled Monday, July 15, 2024.  

The College closure will end at 10 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Sheldon ISD closed 

Sheldon ISD will be closed for the remainder of the week due to power outages. 

Spring Branch ISD closed

All SBISD facilities remain closed through Sunday, July 14, as we continue to address issues following Hurricane Beryl. SBISD plans to resume normal summer operations on Monday, July 15, including summer school and ESY programs. All on-duty staff should plan to report to work.

Texas State Technical College closed

Texas State Technical College’s Fort Bend County campus will be closed until further notice due to Hurricane Beryl. Offices will be closed and no in-person classes will be held.

Online classes will continue as scheduled. Students who are unable to access online classes can reach out to their instructors.

Tomball ISD closed

Due to continued power outages, Tomball ISD will be closed through Friday, July 12. The closure includes all schools and facilities, summer school, camps, and activities.  

UH Main, UH Sugar Land and UH Katy are closed through next week

University of Houston, UH at Sugar Land and UH at Katy will remain closed Friday, July 12.
