Tomball family concerned with potentially deadly live wires down on their property

When Beryl moved through Maria Iragorri's neighborhood, strong winds knocked down trees and brought widespread damage to the area.

TOMBALL, Texas — A Tomball family has questions about their safety after Hurricane Beryl left several lines down on their property.

But they're not sure if they're electrified or not.

It's a very important question, but the family said CenterPoint isn't giving them an answer.

When Beryl moved through Maria Iragorri's neighborhood, strong winds knocked down trees and brought widespread damage to the area.

"We heard a loud explosion," Iragorri said.

She said it was the sound of a transformer exploding.

"The limb from the tree fell and took off all the power and the light over here and snapped that pole in half," she said.

It left behind a major and potentially dangerous situation.

"The live wire, as you can see, it's touching the metal gate. So, we were afraid of even touching the gate. So the fire department came and kicked the gate open and said you could go across as long as you don't touch it because we don't know if it's powered or not -- if it's live or not," she said.

It left her and her family with more questions than answers.

"Like, we don't even know if anybody can get electrocuted over here," Iragorri said.

With the potentially dangerous and deadly wires exposed and the family getting no answers, Irragorri said she did what anyone would do -- she called CenterPoint multiple times.

"I've called four times. Every time I call, I tell them and they say they'll take the report and then when I call again, they say sorry, we don't have anything reported," she said.

She said she just wants to know if the wire is live so she can protect her children and pets.

"You feel like you really have no hope, like you're hopeless ... left to your own demise," she said.

KHOU 11 News reached out to CenterPoint for answers but didn't hear back.
