HOUSTON — A Flood Watch is now in effect for counties south of I-10. That includes parts of Harris, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Matagorda and Wharton counties through Tuesday evening.
Rain chances will be on the rise again on Wednesday as Gulf moisture streams in from off the ocean.
Robust onshore flow has been transporting deep gulf moisture up and over southeast Texas. This will result in training thunderstorms presenting a flooding risk for the areas where they develop later this afternoon.
The main threat will be brief heavy downpours that could reduce visibility for drivers and produce isolated high water spots. Of course this is Houston, so even a few high spots can snarl traffic.
Rain totals could exceed 1"-3" in some spots. The dry ground can handle that, but some roads could see high water spots with that kind of rain.
Rain chances continue on Wednesday and Thursday, ahead of an approaching cold front that will finally bring cooler, more fall like weather for the coming weekend.
