HOUSTON — An Excessive Heat Warning was issued in Southeast Texas.
It went into effect Friday afternoon and will remain in place until Friday at 9 p.m.
Temperatures soared into the upper 90s and with high humidity in place, heat index values have soared to between 109 to 118 degrees, which causes an increase in the likelihood of heat-related illnesses.
It's in effect for most counties surrounding the Houston area.
Once the Excessive Heat Warning expires on Friday night, a Heat Advisory will go into effect through 9 p.m. Saturday.
The best thing you can do is drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned rooms. Also, avoid direct sunlight and check on your family members and friends.
Future forecast
Through the next seven days, expect very hot and humid conditions with temperatures at or near 100 degrees through the weekend. The skies will be mostly sunny. We could see a stray shower or two on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. By Tuesday a bit more tropical moisture will bring up rain chances to 30%.
