KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul took a look at exactly what happened as the severe weather made its way through Southeast Texas.
"No doubt about it, if you lived through the core of these winds, you went through the equivalent of a cat 1 if not a cat 2 hurricane," Paul said.
The path of the strongest winds began around 6 p.m. Thursday in the Cypress area. At 6:10 p.m., 79 mph wind gusts were recorded there. Transmission lines were knocked down in the area.
At 6:26 p.m., 113 mph wind gusts were recorded in the Spring Branch area where trees were knocked over.
The strong winds then moved through the Heights and Timbergrove before reaching downtown Houston at 6:32 p.m.
In downtown, windows were broken on skyscrapers leaving the streets below covered in broken glass due to winds recorded at 105 mph.
