HOUSTON — Frozen pipes rupturing is expected to be an issue on Wednesday, so residents will need to know how to turn off water to their homes to minimize the damage.
KHOU 11’s Stephanie Whitfield talked to a local plumber about what to do when residents find themselves in this situation.
This is important information to keep in mind, no matter where residents live.
That’s why experts say it’s so important to know where the main water shut-off valve is in a home so residents can stop the flow of water as quickly as possible.
If someone lives in a house, it’s usually outside the home or in the garage.
“Typically, if a water line has frozen then ruptured, as soon as the water thaws out, you’ll know it. It will be a lot of water. It will be loud and cause a lot of damage in a short amount of time,” Mike Collins, with 1-800-Plumber +Air, said.
If that happens, turn the water off. Then call a plumber right away. Homeowners should also clean up the water and get their insurance on the phone.
Remember, the same thing can happen with a home’s sprinkler system, keep an eye on the yard.
