HOUSTON — After a month of very dry weather that has sent a large part of the Houston area into drought, rain chances are going up heading into the weekend.
In fact, rain chances will ramp up for Election Day with scattered showers and storms. This all due to another cold front moving across Texas. It is very likely that we could be looking at isolated heavy downpours and wet roadways. Therefore, the KHOU 11 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert Day for Election Day, Tuesday November 5, 2024.
12 a.m. through 3 a.m. Tuesday
We can expect the frontal boundary to approach our outlying counties by early Tuesday Morning. Rain chances will increase in the early morning hours. So, you might want to give yourself enough time for your Tuesday morning commute.
7 a.m. Tuesday
Remember, polling locations open at 7 a.m. and there is an increasing potential for a dicey weather set-up in southeast Texas. Weather models are hinting at heavier downpours approaching western Harris county from 7 - 8 a.m. as the cold front approaches the Houston area.
11-12 p.m. Tuesday
If you are heading out to lunch, you might want to check road conditions before you leave work. Scattered showers will likely be in the picture through mid-day.
4-5 p.m. Tuesday
It looks like scattered showers will be in the picture through the afternoon commute home. We could see heavier downpours along the coast. Areas that receive heavier rain could experience minor flooding to ponding on roadways.
6-7 p.m. Tuesday
It's voting crunch time and polls will close at 7 p.m.! Showers and storms will start to dissipate and become more isolated in nature. We could still see some isolated pockets of heavy downpours, but for much of the area could still experience light, lingering showers. Roads will likely remain wet and slick through Tuesday evening.
Rain Accumulations through Tuesday could exceed 2-3" in some locations. Make sure to use caution when driving. Drive slower than usual and give enough space between yourself and other vehicles if driving in rainy conditions.
