HOUSTON — Houston was hit with its first freeze of the winter season on Sunday as a cold front swept across Texas.
The cold front didn't just bring lower temperatures but also windy conditions that triggered warnings and advisories in several counties.
A FREEZE WARNING will be in effect for the following counties from 12 a.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Monday: Chambers, Brazoria, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Matagorda, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Liberty, Wharton.
A HARD FREEZE WARNING is in effect for most counties north of I-10 from Sunday night into Monday morning.
You will want to cover the plants and make sure the pets are inside. Also, check on your neighbors and family to make sure they're OK.
Northern counties will need to protect pipes.
It is our first taste of winter weather this season! But it's forecast to move out as quickly as it moves in. Temperatures should begin to bounce back Tuesday, according to our KHOU 11 meteorologists.
While Houston got a strong bite of cold temperatures, in some parts of Texas, residents woke up to significant snow falling and icy road conditions.
Lubbock resident Kathy Bingham shared this video of snow falling in North Texas last night:
Timeline of cold front coming to Houston
Sunday: Sunday morning was the first freeze, from Columbus to Tomball, Spring and The Woodlands, and on up to Cleveland. By Sunday morning, temperatures dipped into the 30s, with gusty winds. It felt like it was in the 20s!
Monday: Monday morning will be colder as the freeze line moves to the south into the central parts of our coastal counties. Places like Alvin and Angleton will even see a light freeze.
Tuesday & Wednesday: Houston begins to rebound as temperatures start to warm up into the 60s on Tuesday, and conditions finally reach the upper 70s by Wednesday.
