HOUSTON -- The flooding caused major damage to the trail system and dog park at Buffalo Bayou Park.

The Buffalo Bayou Partnership says it will take at least three weeks for the dog park to reopen, as crews have to remove a thick layer of dirt and debris that washed into the new park.

"It's really sad to see," said Maria Wallingford. "It's covered in mud and dirt, after all the work they put into it."

Some of the footpaths actually suffered structural damage, there's a section that collapsed into the bayou. The main trail is closed at Shepherd and Allen Parkway due to a sinkhole.

The park's extensive lighting system is designed to withstand flooding but crews say it will take time to turn the lights back on. Expect the park to remain dark at least into next week.
