CONROE, Texas — On Friday, several roads in the River Plantation Community in Conroe were blocked off due to high water, leading to water rescues having to be made.
On Saturday, a lot of the roads were open once again and you could see items damaged from flood water out on several streets as families like the Reeps cleaned up what was left behind.
“You can see how high it was on the washing machine,” said Angela Reeps.
The Reeps family decided to evacuate on Thursday. When we met them Friday, they learned there was about five feet of water in their home and they couldn’t get to it. On Saturday, they were finally able to return.
“The constables let us in. We still had about two feet of water on the road up that way, but it was enough where we could drive through,” said Arnold Reeps. “And when we pulled up here, that's when we finally got to see the house and it was pretty, hard.”
The family has lived in their home on Brandon Road for about three years now and said they never experienced flooding like this.
“This time we weren't so lucky,” said Angela Reeps.
They’re thankful they decided to evacuate.
“No way we could have been in here. We did water up to here trying to hold the dogs and wouldn't be able to sit down,” Arnold Reeps.
“We would’ve probably been on the roof,” Angela Reeps said.
They said it still hurts to see the place they call home filled with mud and water.
“They’re material things. I get it, they can be replaced. But it's what you worked for all this time, and everything's gone,” Angela Reeps said.
Now, they’re figuring out what’s next.
“We got to keep moving forward,” said Arnold Reeps.
“You have to live, and we have kids. They’re grown but they still look to their parents,” Angela Reeps said.
The family has decided they’ll move when they can.
“We're going to save what we can and find another home. Preferably one away from water,” said Angela Reeps.
The family has created a GoFundMe to help them as they replace their items and look for a new home.
The River Plantation Community is opening a recovery center starting Monday to help those in the community impacted.
