HOUSTON — Daylight saving officially ended on November 5, always falling on the first Sunday in November. As you head out the door this morning, you might feel a bit more rested being that we gained one extra hour of sleep. Time Sunday night "fell back" after 1:59 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Aside from an additional hour of snoozing, you will notice that sunrise and sunset will be sooner.

We will continue to lose daylight until the winter solstice, which occurs on December 21, 2023 marking the start of the winter season.

While Earth is always tilted on its axis at 23.5°, during the winter solstice, North America and the northern hemisphere will be tilted away from the sun seeing the shortest amount of daylight.

Our shortest day in Houston will only have 10 hours and 14 minutes of daylight.
