HOUSTON — Hundreds of people were stuck at Bush Airport Tuesday morning after their Spirit Airline flights were delayed.
The company blames a third-party system for the problem.
The good news is Spirit’s reservation system which was experiencing a network issue is working properly again. The bad news is hundreds of flights were delayed nationwide, impacting folks at Bush Airport.
The line of passengers wrapped around the ticket check-in section of the airport Tuesday morning. Lines were so packed that extra security was called in to help with crowd control and to make sure nothing got out of hand.
Some passengers say flights were delayed for more than four hours here in Houston, with similar reports of delays in San Diego and Orlando. Then the flight schedule board was displaying flights running on time when they had already been delayed for hours.
Many travelers complained about kiosks not working and no communication from Spirit Airlines directly.
“A lot of people are frustrated and I heard something about some people threaten to have a fight or something in line,” said one passenger who was trying to get to Cancun.
Other passengers say nothing was texted to them or posted on the Spirit app.
The lines were not as long at noon during our live report as they were in the morning, so passengers were getting on their way. Flights to Cancun, Orlando and Denver were some of the first flights to board.
Spirit Airlines issued the following statement earlier when we reached out.
"Spirit Airlines reservation system Navitaire temporarily experienced latency this morning. Navitaire has confirmed that they have corrected the issue. We apologize for the delays, and we’re now working our way back to our regular operation."
