HOUSTON — At this point, travelers are used to construction at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
“There no time to nibble at the edges. We’re really transforming," Houston Airports spokesperson Augusto Bernal said.
And starting Monday, CenterPoint will be doing work to support the airport's new international terminal. The work is expected to last four weeks.
“This closure is necessary to allow CenterPoint Energy to install crucial electrical infrastructure under the roadway," Bernal said.
Temporary lane closures along North Terminal Road could impact Terminals C, D and E.
“We’ve done traffic modeling, we’ve done traffic simulations and we’ve also tested. When we did all that testing, we saw about a 15- to 20-minute delay during those peak travel times leading to those terminals," Bernal said.
Those peak travel times are between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. but he said with a little planning, the potential inconvenience can be lessened.
“The more time you give yourself, the easier it will be to find your parking spot, get through those traffic congestions and reach your flight," Bernal said.
And for travelers who might grow impatient -- all the work, Bernal said, is going to pay off.
“It is a really big project and like I said we continue with flight operations and serving the public. It’s challenging but things are getting better," he said.
