Update-- the freeway has fully reopened

HOUSTON -- A big rig reportedly struck an overpass along I-45 North, shutting down the northbound lanes near downtown early Monday afternoon.
As of 4 p.m. all northbound mainlanes were blocked at McKinney not far from the Theater District. Traffic was backed up past Spur 5 near the University of Houston on the other side of downtown.
Crews will likely need to inspect the overpass for damage before the freeway can fully reopen.
Northbound drivers are advised to take the 610 Loop around downtown if possible.
