South Loop reopens following deadly crash heading east

Weather is believed to be a factor in the crash since overnight storms were moving through the area at the time.

The South Loop has reopened following a deadly crash early Wednesday, according to the Houston Police Department.

HOUSTON — The South Loop has reopened following a deadly crash early Wednesday, according to the Houston Police Department.

According to Houston TranStar, this happened just at 1:20 a.m. heading east near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The freeway reopened just before 5 a.m.

KHOU 11 traffic expert Jennifer Reyna advises drivers to use the feeder road as an alternate route.

Houston police said officers and firefighters arrived at the scene to find an SUV crashed into a tree. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Weather is believed to be a factor in the crash since overnight storms were moving through the area at the time.
