HOUSTON – A road striping truck caught fire, causing gridlock along the West Loop during the morning rush hour Friday.
Air 11 was over the scene just before 7 a.m. The truck caught fire in the southbound lanes near Old Katy Road.
The Houston Fire Department said the truck was carrying several propane tanks, so emergency responders blocked both sides of the freeway until firefighters got a handle on the blaze.
There were no early reports of injuries, but the incident was a pain for morning commuters coming in from the northwest side of town.
The scene was cleared just after noon, but had traffic in the area backed on the Loop and 290 for most of the morning as hazmat crews cleaned up the mess.
