HOUSTON — A car crashed into a power pole Tuesday night creating a ripple effect, and knocking down a series of poles and wires, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff’s office said at least four cars became trapped in the downed lines, creating a dangerous situation.

This happened at 11:30 p.m. on Veterans Memorial between Beltway 8 and Gears Road. All lanes of Veterans Memorial have been shut down.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a driver, 20, in a Nissan 370 hit one of the power poles, which then knocked down seven others.

The sheriff said CenterPoint has been working nonstop to clear the roadway. The downed power lines led to an outage to a nearby apartment complex and businesses.

Around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Gonzalez tweeted an update and said all of the poles were back up but they were still stringing cables. They expect to finish around 2 p.m.
