Major Houston freeways reopen after tanker crash forced them to be closed for hours

Damage on the ramp caused by the crash led to several closures and detours where the Eastex Freeway meets the North Loop.

HOUSTON — The 610 North Loop and the Eastex Freeway were shut down Monday due to a crash involving a tanker truck, according to Houston TranStar.

This happened just before 11 a.m. No other vehicles were involved.

The Texas Department of Transportation said emergency closures were put in place to allow crews to repair the bridge damaged by the crash.

Just before 5:45 p.m., TxDOT announced that the southbound main lanes of the Eastex Freeway had reopened at the North Loop.

The North Loop eastbound lanes were also closed at the Eastex Freeway for hours. Drivers detoured east on the Loop and then to the Eastex direct connectors. Later Monday night, the road was reopened.
