85-year-old woman was killed when car flew down embankment near downtown, Houston police say

Two other women were also hurt in the two-vehicle collision, according to the Houston Police Department.

HOUSTON — A deadly two-vehicle crash shut down multiple roads and freeway lanes on Wednesday afternoon near downtown Houston.

The incident happened before 2 p.m. along Pierce Street and Hamilton.

Houston police stated a black Ford Fusion was traveling southbound when the driver ran a red light and struck a Chevrolet Malibu. The Ford then crashed through a fence and flew down a freeway embankment, hitting a barrier that stopped the sedan from entering the I-69 mainlanes under I-45.

Police confirmed Thursday that an 85-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Ford, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The 63-year-old female driver in that vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The 31-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police stated.
