HOUSTON — A wrong-way driver was killed and two people were injured Saturday morning on the North Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department.

The name of the 21-year-old man killed has not been released.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. on the southbound lanes of I-45 near North Main St.

Police said the driver in a Honda Civic was going in the wrong direction on I-45 when he crashed into an SUV.

The Civic struck a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe traveling southbound. The Chevrolet then struck a gray Nissan Sentra, also traveling southbound. Paramedics pronounced the wrong-way driver of the Honda dead at the scene.

The male 25-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet and the 70-year-old female driver of the Nissan were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, HPD said.
